I have a barrel band on mine and a normal stock plug in the stock. I love it.

Too much for me, I prefer the stock lever. It has worked well for over 100 years I have no need to change it now. But good luck with it, to each his own.

S W E E T! I didn't like the buckhorns on my '95', so I put on a Lyman 66WB sight. I like it real well. I'm thinking of putting the sight you have on my 1886 and get rid of that buckhorn too.
Rifles a real beauty. I would like to get another one in .30-06 myself.

Re: Half way there! Preview Win 1895
Here is my 1895 Winnie in .405 win. This is by far becoming my favorite rifle. The only difference in mine is now I have a Lyman 66wb reciever sight and a sling. Taking it bear hunting later this month. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn57/Pathfinder09_album/HPIM1072.jpg I don't think you will be...

I've got a m-99 in .30-30. It is from late thirties. I would love one in .308 that I could scope. It would be a darn nice rifle. I keep on the lookout for used ones but they are hard to come by in these parts. I think new ones would sell.

I'm in the same process with my .405 Winchester. I'm doing a lot of business with Buffaalo Arms. Good folks to do business with. I have saved up my factory loaded brass, I have the dies, bullets and a load data. Soon to start reloading for it.

I'm just getting into loading my self. I've got the dies and the brass. I need a kit. I'm looking at the Lee single stage kit, and the RCBS Rockchuker kit. I'm alsop going to pick up a lee handloader as well for .45-70. Money is an issue for me right now so I need reliable, tuff, and inexpensive as ...

Have you guys ever seen the British film CSA "The Confederate States of America". It is a film made as though the Confederacy won the war. It is very interesting and controversail. Not for the politically correct. Although I am not a southerner, I always had a lot of respect for the south ...

TT and CRS,
Beautiful pieces. I picked mine up as a shooter and a hunter. I want mine to go into the field with me. I love this design. you either love'em or hate'em.

Re: Winchester 1886 Deluxe for Hunting???
I have one. It is a delux takedown model. I certainly plan on taking it hunting this year. It is a heavy piece, but I put some sling swivels on it and it is fine. The but plate can be stout. no problem with most factory loads. Stout high pressure loads give a good jolt but nothing you can't handle f...

Re: Browning 1886
That looks like a tang peep sight holes. The Peep sight would be in the back two screws. The screw 1/2" toward the hammer is the stock screw. When you drill for the tang sight you use the stock screw toward the butt and drill one toward the hammer which is what it looks like you have. They just...

Brownings did not have a tang safety, but the USRAC 1886's did. I agree with Griff. sounds like tang peep sight holes. They are used quite a bit on the 86's.

Mine was my dad's Savage Mod 99 in .30-30. I still have it and shoot it.
Then was a Marlin 336 in .30-30, 1951 vintage. I still have and shoot it also. Now I've added a few more Marlins and Winchesters. You can never have enough lever guns!

Great stuff. That '86' looks like the carbine. The full rigfle had a 26" barrel as my USRAC pictured here. Great rifle. That rifle should do him proud. I hope he passes it on to someone else in his family.
