I've had real good luck with the fixed 2.5 Weavers as well as the 4x Weaver. That is plenty for 100 yds. Not too tough on the wallet either and very tough.

I've gotta say that I quit using partitions in my Whelen. They just seemed to whistle right through an elk and not open up. When I changed to the Hornady and Speer 250's they started dropping the elk faster. In my experience Partitions are good at magnum velocities. Just my two bits.

Take it home, you'll like it! I heard for years how the 300 Savage in these rifles doesn't shoot very well. Not true. Both of mine shoot nice groups. They are easy on the shoulder and within their range they are enough gun for about anything. They are fun to shoot!

It's the best load I had for the 30-30. As Don said it worked for both 150 and 170. My rifle shot Hornady 150's the best. For you 300 Savage guys, it was also the best powder in both of my 99's.
