When I saw the sawn off barrel on that nice old gun I just went 'Aww stuff, not that nice old Marlin!' But looking at the end result I have to say it turned out pretty neat. Pretty much the same on the other side of the state Don. I think the high was 29 and snowed all day. Supposed to get down closer to 10 tonight.
Talked to a friend from over by Mckinnon/Burnt Fork. Said they had 15" at their place up Birch Creek this morning.

I have two that I can't decide between:
1. Model 71 rifle with a bolt peep (either Browning or Win)
2. Model 94 in 25-35 w/longer octagon barrel
Right after them I want a Marlin Cowboy in 38-55

I liked them alright, but actually liked the Speer better. I'm one of those guys who actually likes expansion and hydraulic shock thought. Not as much of a solid fan.
For the elk and moose the 350 grain Hornady FP isn't too bad of a bullet. The 300 grain Partition is a nice expensive bullet I guess.

I have a BLR in 358 and like it very much. I bought it from a guy named mtngun (I think that how he spelled it) on this forum. That's the way I still run my brandings. With good cowboys (read no team ropers that don't own cattle) it's easy on the cattle. Lot's more fun too. Like I said Buck, some cowboys did use centerfire or single rigged saddles. We still have one Hamley that's put together that way. Being born and raised on a ranch (and still running it) I see a lot of saddle time. Look at that saddle horn and you can tell it hasn't been used for ranch work. In my n...

Gray horse, posed photo. That saddle is a center fire, single rigged saddle. Cowboys used them but not as much as double rigged saddles. The horn don't look like it's had too much of anything dallied to it. As far as the rope goes, who knows. In those days you didn't have new ones that close at hand...

I really liked the Hornady XTP's in my 1894CL. They seem to hold up better and the nosed doesn't deform like the Speer 100 grainer. The 85's really fly and are extremely lethal on varmints. If you're keeping the hides it can be a little tough on foxes and coyotes when you really load it up though. 1...
