Thanks guys!
Butcher says he's really backed up with beef processing, so not sure if he'll get done by OAC on the 4th Sunday? If he does I'll bring a plate full of jerky to the show!

This isn't far from Condon, at Hepner. Same thing there too. I got this one in a swale just below some rimrock. Took over an hour to hike the 2000 ft. elevation change to reach the top of the ridge from the truck. No motor vehicles allowed in this area, so everything gets packed in and out by hand! ...

Yea, it's about 8-10 more miles to get into the timber, but I like the open country, as it seems nobody else wants to work that hard to get within range in the grassland. I saw him at 600-700 yds., and worked my way up to about 400 fraom over the hill. Then it was belly crawling through the tall gra...

'07 buck hunt
Buck season is over for me this year. Got a decent 3x3 mulie opening morning at 9:10AM. Wasn't able to use the new 1885 Winchester I took along, as the report was for heavy rain, and I didn't want to take a chance. Instead I took my old standby, the Rem. 700 in .22-250. (yes, it's legal in Oregon!) ...

I use Metal Glow or Flitz on my fingers to rub surface rust. If it wont get it off, then I switch to the same product with 0000 steel wool. Just finished doing the latter to a friend's 1947 vintage 39a, which had rust pitting on the barrel that felt like sandpaper, and looked ugly. It now looks like...

Just curious...but I have seen quite a few lo-walls chambered for the 22 short. Some of them in configurations similar to your Ballard. So what type of competition were these used for??? There seem to be some pretty elaborate rifles out there chambered for the short. Nice Ballard MarlinMan... :wink...

Postman dropped off another Ballard
Here's a few pictures of the second Ballard, a custom Zettler Bros. schuetzen, based on a Ballard #6. The specs are .22 short, 30" #3 full octagon Win. barrel; recut to Zettler Bros. rifling. Palm rest and and stocks are also ZB, but knob has been replaced. Scope is aStevens 438, mounted in a s...

To Marlinman, I have owned my Ballard for about 6 years. It has a heavy round barrel by A.W.Peterson. Something nags me that he may have lived or worked in Colorado. Not sure though. David, You are correct! Axel Peterson worked in Denver, Co. from the late 1800's to around 1950. He worked with the ...

I've never carried one on a horse, but my father and his brother always carried theirs in front of the saddle, with the butt straight up. He said it stayed put better if they were traveling up or downhill, without ending up on the ground. If carried that way, you need to remove it while seated in th...

Thanks fellas! A 6 1/2 Rigby in .22 huh? That sounds like a great piece! Didn't come out of the Denver area did it? I missed one that was for sale down there a couple years ago, and it also was in .22LR. The next one on the way is a schuetzen based on a #6 Ballard. Should arrive this week sometime! ...

New Lever-not a repeater.
Here's my latest addition to the Marlin Ballard collection. This one is a special order #3, with extra heavy 28" full octagon barrel, ordered without rear sight dovetail, and with gallery midrange vernier, and Win. globe front. It also has special order wood, with checkering, shadowline cheepie...

salvo, The little Rolling Block is based on the old Rem. #2 receive, and is a very high quality gun. I looked one over locally at a gun shop and was very impressed! Considering an original #2 in .22lr in minty condition will go $1500-$2000 they are a real bargain too! The Stevens is a real lowbuck m...

No easy fix for any early Marlin mag tube, as just disassembling it can be a huge headache, but that shouldn't deter a guy who can work on Bzers! The inner tube follower has a pin that rides in the full length slot you see when open. It also has a hole at the end that doesn't show. This hole ...
