Depends on the center punch, and the hardness of the tang. think the Henry is soft, so no problem with most punches. One thing that will make it a much easier, and correct installation is a good drill press. You can do the holes by hand, but a good press and a nice table vise on the drill press will...

Leverdude, The Volcanic IS a lever action pistol! I believe they were mostly .41 or .31 caliber, and a brass cartridge. They were finicky about cycling, and often had issues with jamming. B. How true OTH! They were like so many extremely well made guns. Expensive. With the Winchesters selling so much cheaper, most people figured they wouldn't wear either out, so why pay more! 886 is correct. It is not a special run, but a very early 1895. For some reason they used a serial number that didn't jive with any other Marlins, or their usual data.

Probably because they ween't big sellers to start with. Cost of making them was not cheap, since they were somewhat complex, and extrremely well built. A repro would be great, but not inexpensive if it was authentic.

Because of the Volcanic's weak action design, even with modern metallurgy it would be limitedas to calibers. That might be a killer to get anyone to repro it.
