It should not raise pressures even though the length is shorter because the base of the bullet is not moving backward into the powder. You will find a number of people on this forum feel it is their favorite levergun. Yes, you can shoot .38s out of it. Perfect for fun plinking. And with the right bullet, it's a fine deer rifle as well. I own one, and really enjoy it.
