There was a case a while back in my town, where someone broke into a woman's home. She didn't have a gun but fought back anyway, driving the intruder out finally, guess he'd had enough of her (sorry, can't remember the details). Anyway the PR spokesman for the police wrote a letter to the editor of ...

I have the .358 BLR. It is a great thumper (on lined-up milkjugs anyway :) ) considering the light weight of the gun and the recoil is not bad either, even shooting Speer 250gr bullets at around 2250fps. I was going to use the Speer 250gr GrandSlam for hunting elk in grizzly territory, but so far on...

Funny, I always got the impression the fundamental purpose of government was to extend the power and enrichment of those who are members of it. Nobody here is saying we dont want a Govt. I was going to chime in with the crowd here and say I hate large levers, both for looks and function. But that DRC lever actually looks pretty good. And, I can see maybe adding a leather wrap around it like I've seen some do which would be easier on the fingers - the slightly larger loop making that...

What jd45 is getting at, if I'm not mistaken, is that the throats probably were 20 to 30 ten -thousandths undersized. If they were 20 thousandths undersized for a .358 bullet, that would mean the diameter was .338! Or maybe I'm just missing something here... Great thread by the way. I believe...

The rounded back of the front sight causes reflections which makes for a poor (and varying, depending on sun angle) sight picture. Ross Seyfried used to advocate cutting a flat angle there to eliminate that rounded curve. I tried it once on a Bearcat using just a dremel tool and the side of a cut-of...

Mic McPherson has a formula in here for the velocity you want:

It's about revolver loads but I suppose it applies to long guns too. Personally, I don't know - my experience here is limited.

Burn 'em down. No mercy. I used to think this way. If you don't mind having your gut in a churn every day for the next year or two (never mind possible under-the-table repercussions), I suppose that's a way to go. Personally, I don't think you would be doing any good. There is no way to root corrup...

I MUCH prefer the 86/92 action over the gut-schucking 94. Hey, no kidding. I just laughed the first time I cycled a 94. :) Agree with Gun Smith. Rear locking lugs are for the birds, but hey, you just use them within their design parameters. Which brings up a question. I think I've seen it in a load...

Since no third party candidate stands a chance of willing, and no write in does either, it simply comes down to this; do I vote for McCain and take a chance he won't totally FUBAR this country, or vote for Obama/Clinton who will without a shadow of a doubt FUBAR this county. That's interesting. How...

What is the job of a politician? A politician's ONLY job is to run for reelection. That's right. But it works both ways. If he can get elected and re-elected by betraying gun owners, he will do that. If he can get elected and re-elected by betraying his former allies the gun prohibitionists, he wil...

Do we have time to pass a petition to get Reagan on the ballot again?? A dead man cannot do worse than the lot we've got now. Already been done. If you want to make more visible targets, you can buy black craft paper in 3-foot wide rolls. I've gotten it in children's stores. Usually I buy about 10' of it, it lasts forever, and is very cheap. I usually pre-cut it into differing size squares. Then at the range depending on what I'm shooting, I...

I have to agree. Anyone in that position must exercise judgement, no matter what his background is or how worthy his past actions. Comments like that do tremendous damage to our cause, and give aid and comfort to the enemy. In fact the more worthy and important the person's background, the more dama...

Angular momentum depends not only on the RPMs but also on how far each atom of the bullet is from the center of rotation. Fat bullets have more atoms farther out, thus more angular momentum for the same RPMs. I'm guessing part of the 357's questionable reputation has more to do with poor shot placem...

Mike Venturino did an article on the camp carbines a while back; I cut it out and filed it. IIRC the 9mm had very modest velocity gains, virtually none for the heavy bullets (not enough powder!) The .45 did better. None were anything like the Magnum caliber velocity gains we see. I have a 9 camp car...
