Re: New Wildcat Project for my 1886 450 2.44"
I didn't realize the Marlin requires such a shortened version of the AK. I was thinking the round on the left was closer to my 2.75" that my 71 eats.

Re: New Wildcat Project for my 1886 450 2.44"
The COAL looks far longer than the 450AK next to it. My AK loads to about 2.75", and I think the '86 will handle 2.88" or slightly more. Perhaps it will go farther ... but those look WAY long.

It will be interesting to see if that conversion is possible. The 450 AK's rim is 80+ thousandths larger in diameter.

Re: 450 Alaskan Reloading / Loads
Rim, I believe the newer Alliant powders are all there. Looking at the powder data base now. The reason 300 MP is not, is something about its chemical composition that defies the Quick Load algorithm... I had hoped 300MP would show up in QL and that it could then be compared to old Norma R123. I've...

Just some QuickLoad data. ... I really wish Alliant would give the QuickLoad guy the data he needs to include their newer powders. It's been years now that they've been out, 300MP for example, but they are still not in QuickLoad. I think that Barnes TSX extends a bit farther into the case, compared...

My inexpensive shooting load (well, less expensive anyway) was the Speer Hot-Cor #2478 (350 grain JFP) over 66 grains of IMR 3031 lit by a WLR primer. I would final crimp with a Lee FCD that was made up specifically for the 450 AK. I'll have to look up the particulars but I think COAL was 2.78"...

I had one once. A WWII issue 1911 that was my fathers. It turned out, the thumb safety was broken. I was pointing it, loaded, at a baseboard with the safety on and pulled the trigger. Much to my surprise, it punched a nice hole in the baseboard. I was lucky to be practicing one of those golden rules...

I think the guy who was killed was there to pick up his child as part of the court ordered sharing of custody. Does anyone know why they went to the two-piece lever early on in Win '95 production? Moving a 71 from 348 Win to 50-110 WCF or 450 Alaskan is probably the best path forward. I would think an 86 in 45-90 would be formidable unless it's without a nickel steel barrel and needs to be run at lower pre-smokeless pressures. You should be able to get 50-110 brass online and even 450 Alaskan...

To me, it simply looks like the round was fired with the bushing already absent. It just looks like the primer inverted itself with nothing to hold it in place. There's just not enough metal for that to be the bushing attached to the back of the round.
