Handgun hunting 2011... Whitetail buck and 45 Colt content
It's whitetail season here in Ohio, and I shot this beauty last night at my dad's farm. Used a stainless Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in 45 Colt, loaded with 300gr XTP hollowpoints at 1325fps. I no more than walked out of the garage to start out and this guy was standing in the driveway behind my truck......

OT: 45 Colt "Ruger Only" or "+P" Loads & New vs. Old Vaquero
I've always read that the hardcore loads in 45 Colt that are specified as 'Ruger Only' or '+P' were for all Ruger revolvers - but only OLD Vaqueros... and the New Vaquero with the smaller frame could not handle them. I emailed Mike at Double Tap Ammunition to get an opinion from him, and he emailed ...

Shooting with tang sight folded down?
I am considering a tang sight on my 92 rifle. However, my concern is how comfortable it would be to hold/shoot with the sight folded down... I envision not "always" using the tang sight except for longer range shots, and it folds down right where my hand wraps around the stock. How do you ...

Ruger Birdshead 45LC or Montado?
Anybody have one of these Ruger sixguns in 45 Colt? Don't ask me why, but I really feel like a Birdshead grip frame and a 3.75" barrel would just be a hoot to shoot. This may be my next gun, but it will be a real search to find an original Old Vaquero with Birdshead grip and 3.75" barrel -...

It's dovetailed in.Jeff H wrote:Nice work! That wood looks nice under that stain they apply.
I like the nose cap on the 20" rifle and thouigh about adding one to me 16" and ditching the barrel band.
How is the hanger attached to the barrel? Welded? Dovetailed?

Rossi 1892 - Refinishing/Upgrading Project Progress
Here are some pictures of my progress so far with this rifle. It started out new as a basic Rossi 1892 in stainless steel, chambered in 45 Long Colt with a 24" octagon barrel. I was unsatisfied with the finish of the wood on the rifle (not surprisingly) and being it's a real multi-purpose/woods...

Re: OT: 45 Auto guys, what you think?
I would skip the GI model and go for a Mil-Spec. 1911s are my favorite pistol, and I have more than one of them in my stable. For some really good information and advice on 1911s (of all types and brands), visit this forum: http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77 Yes, it's a Glock base...

Re: 1892- Sling Stud on forearm or nosecap?
Well, I took the plunge on this project earlier this week. I removed the end cap and set it up in a drill press, and drilled through the stainless, cleaned up the hole with emery cloth and a file, and then hand threaded the hole to match my machine screw sling stud. I finished it up with a lot of bl...

Re: Introduction... and discussion about Rossi 92 45LC Project
Thanks for all the help and advice here. Last weekend I stripped down my rifle, and used a furniture stripper to take off all of the old finish from the wood. I then used 3-4 coats of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil (drying in between) and it really turned out nice. I just may do another coat on the buttsto...

Re: Ruger fit and finish
My grips fit that poorly on my version of that exact same gun. I complained to Ruger and they sent me a set of replacement grips, and they fit poorly too. I got a set of Hogue checkered wood grips and they fit the frame perfectly. I would try some other type of grips before you defile the metal on t...

Tru Glo sight set for 94... will it fit a 92?
As title states... online research yields a Tru Glo front/rear sight set exists for '94 rifles. Will it fit my Rossi '92 octagon barrel? What are the differences?

Re: 1892- Sling Stud on forearm or nosecap?
Thanks for the comments. I should have noted, my rifle is a 24" stainless model, and my main aversion to using magazine tube mount is the black/stainless contrast. The robustness of it is also a concern, but mainly I want it to look good also. I may try to drill and tap the endcap and then eith...

Re: Introduction... and discussion about Rossi 92 45LC Project
Thanks for all the replies guys! Yes, the Ruger is a distributor special through Accusport. I see them from time to time in my local shop, and finally just had to snag one. I much prefer the Bisley grip frame, and the 5.5" barrel just balances so well with this piece. The fact that it's stainle...

Thanks all! The Ruger Bisley was a distributor exclusive through Accusport. My local shop has had several, but I haven't seen one lately. I really prefer the Bisley grip frame and hammer, and the 5.5" barrel has awesome balance for me. The grips shown on it are from Hogue. I think I will try an...
