Re: OT-No more Bass Pro - final straw

I've been treated extremely well by Cabela's customer service on the phone.

The only "negative" I've heard about them is that they kinda "steal" other people's product ideas once they start carrying them by making their own version and selling it cheaper.

I've been shooting a .270 Win. as my one and only deer rifle since 1990 and have never been disappointed in its performance. The .270 is pretty much equal to a .30-06 in my mind...I could take either one and be happy.

A Japan-made Browning A-5. Seriously. (no flames, please)
Better fit and finish than the Belgium A-5's, particularly the internals, and a MUCH lower cost.
It'll keep ticking while you're replacing o-rings on the 11-87.....

I'm in the market for a BLR in 7mm-08, but can't decide on whether or not I want the takedown model or not. I don't need the takedown feature at all, but how in the world would one clean the non-t.d. model without damaging the crown?

My boots don't need to be 100% waterproof, but that sticky mess that Obenauf's leaves has got to go. It would be nice if the Obenauf's could be buffed a bit to avoid the stickiness, but I can't get it to do anything.

What do you guys use on your leather work boots and knockaround boots? I used some Obenauf's last year on a brand new pair of Red Wings and it made an oily mess of them. It has protected them well, though, but it turned them immediately from a nice golden brown to a dark brown oily mess that picks u...

Just curious as to what other's maximum comfortable distance using open sights on deer is. Mine is, realistically, about 150 yards. If it's within that range, it's likely dead if I pull the trigger. At 200 I'm really "hoping for the best". Beyond 200, I really should be using a scope. What...

I don't mind at all an aluminum receiver as far as strength/utility, etc. - I'm more worried about how well the finish will hold up over time. I mean, a well-worn blued steel finish doesn't bother me as it shows character, but a s...
