Re: Shhhhh.....let's keep this quiet about Hunter Restorations..

Mike,

How unusual is this...

In this modern day and age...you can still get that custom ordered Winchester configured the way you wanted, even though Winchester is no longer with us. :)

Shhhhh.....let's keep this quiet about Hunter Restorations..

When I returned tonight a mailing tube was at my door. Some of you will recall from previous threads that I owned a cut-down (reads butchered) Model 1894 Winchester with a 3/4 length mag tube. It was originally a 26" barrelled Take Down configuration. And if it were unmolested, a valuable gun. ...

Re: Hunter Restorations

Joe, I did... I have some fairly nice takedowns. Mike is making up a hunting package for me. It is a short rifle with a longer forearm configuration. Nothing that is even close to factory original. To straighten this one out...here are the challenges. The gun was cut down to a odd measurement. Not 2...

Hunter Restorations

Just wanted to put in a good word for Mike Hunter. I sent a basket case to him. One of my Model 94 Take Downs had been poorly cut down. To say that the barrel had a few issues is an understatement. :D Anyrate, I contacted Mike and he has been generous with the PM's and the phone calls. He has walked...

Re: 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine

OK gizamo, I'm in Maine too, the only '92s I seem to be able to find look like a rusty, bent crowbar with a piece of pallet wood lashed to them, and they are selling for $1k plus. What part of the state are you in?? :?: Same place these 92's came from this since the Summer... 32-20 http:/...

1892 Saddle Ring Carbine

This 38-40 has been my deer rifle this year. Managed to find it at a gunshop here in Maine. Most of the guns up my way are Eastern Carbines, so it was a little unusual to find a SRC. I pulled the tang sight off after I snapped the pics. Really didn't need it on my gun, but it is the way it came... S...

1894 Half Mag Take Down...

Stumbled onto this one...it had just come into a little gunshop that I frequent. Been lucky lately. Serial Number puts it into 1924. Barrel is 26" and the caliber is 30-30. The bore is still excellent. Hoping to shoot it soon, right after deer season... http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/...

The other option would be for me to shorten the mag tube and make it into a half-mag version. Certainly would be cheaper and still look somewhat right...

Restoring a 1894 Takedown...

I found this old gun in a pawn shop not to long ago. At some point in it's life the barrel was shortened. Gone was the slot for the take down lever on the mag tube...along with the magazine tube hanger. I'm fortunate enough to have a first rate machinist that has done wonderful things for some of my...

Re: 1894 Winchester Sporting Rifle

Kirk,

Many thanks for posting the information. Based on my SN my gun falls in October of 1902. Here I was being told by books and other folks that it was from 1899 and must be a made-up gun from later parts. Whew.....

What year was the 32 W.S introduced in the 1894?

My gun serial numbers to 1899. Yet I've been informed that Winchester didn't catalog this cartridge with the 94 until the early 1900's. One source above says 1902. But the Smokeless rear sight was patented in 1901. Anyone know if it's possible to have a 1899 manufactured Model 1894, in 32WS....did s...

Re: 1894 Winchester Sporting Rifle

As the picture shows, no checkering. Personally, I like that feature.
26" Octagon Barrel. Standard forearm length. Only my takedowns are shorter then standard. You are correct that it has a .32 W.S. Smokeless rear sight. However the gun's SN range is to 1899. :)

Building a Winchester Collection.

I've been accumulating some Winchesters and have done so without much focus. Mostly I've cobbled together a pretty decent group 1892's. But a couple of 1873's have been gathered up and some interesting 1894's. I'm realizing that I should concentrate in one area at a time, if I want to truly build a ...
