Re: Universal Watch Repair in MI

The manufacturer called bull! They said the winding stem head broke and was jammed in a gear. They replaced the win...

Never pass an opportunity - late season deer hunt
I was travelling for reasons other than hunting and came upon a last minute unexpected opportunity. An air force contractor had special permits for deer that were overpopulated on the airstrip, testing site and disposal acreage. One of my friends found out about this before my arrival so I did not h...

I like the 22 Mag but wish it was reloadable to keep the cost down. Instead, the somewhat high prices keep the number of rounds I am shooting down. However, I've seen some bulk packed CCI's and Federals lately that are a few buck cheaper than buying the 50 round boxes up to the same quantity. The cl...

Re: What are your thoughts on .308 as a hunting caliber?
There was a time when I didn't care for the 308 Win cartridge. I was young and it got a bad rap from a few elders I respected. Eventually I sold mine. 20 something years later I bought it back mostly due to sentimental value and interest in leverguns moreso than the caliber. I got carried away shoot...

Based on this post I bought several cartridge stops. I am going to try to color case harden one, Kasenit harden one and temper the other. I'll then run a few hundred rounds through each while plinking - might take a few months - but I can then see what seems to hold up best and get yet one more to r...

Nath, The loading gate on my 94 357 sometimes kind of pops out in the front. Most of the time I can push it back in and there is no further problem. Re: Scope Placement On Your Rifle?
I strongly disagree with the concepts described aforementioned. For a field rifle, you lift both hands together to your cheek and pull it back into your shoulder. You then press your cheek down on the stock. That is a proper gun mount. Then, if you are adjusting the scope you bring it back until the...

I like the .452 250 grain XTP with the Harvester Crushed Rib sabot in my TC. They worked good at 1800-1925 fps m.v. I switched to the .430 XTP ( not .429) 240 grain with the green Harvester Crushed Rib sabot. That bullet/sabot is a little more accurate in my rifle and the bullet was more consistent ...

Those are 45-70 Rhinos purchased in 2012. The chest cavity shot and particularly shoulder shots have produced a jelly-like handful of bloody material inside the animal. Very severe damage.

I've not used them personally in Africa yet but I can talk about their use here in the US. In the photo you will see a 405 Woodleigh on the far left that was traveling 2000 fps. Nobody has taken a 32 Spl that I can recall. We have had 30-30's, 357 Mag, etc. In the bushveldt country you arent likely to shoot more than 200 yds. There are Impala, Blesbok, Baboons, Klipspringer, Rheebok and so on that are under 150 pounds and can be taken readily with that power level. Domestic...

I've put primed brass w pointy bullets in the mag tube of a Marlin and fired 3 live rounds over them in an experiment to see if it'd fire off the primer in front of the pointy bullet. Didn't happen. Then I unwisely fired pointy bullets in that rifle several times (about 100) and nothing happened. Th...

In experimenting with the 357 Mag and then the 360DW in a rifle I figured out some of this as it pertains to these cartridges with these tools. In 10" bbl Contender there is some unburned powder residue from the loads I tried. At 16.5" there is none that is detectable. There is a significa...

I have a few LWRC M6's. they are piston driven carbines. You will not believe the manufacturers " maintenance schedule". They have an extensive list of parts to replace and parts to check and clean. This starts at as little as 2500 rds for some parts and 20,000 for others. My S&W M4 is...

Re: Kid with the 360 DW strikes again - buck deer down
The caliber is a bit longer than 357 Magnum but not as long as 357 maximum. The rifle has a simple .21 chamber ream and polish. The cartridge guides had to be filed back a little to handle the length. It'll still shoot 38's or 357 Mags. The 360DW hits the sweet spot with the 180 gr. XTP as far as bu...
